Empowering women through prenatal education!
We work alongside healthcare professionals and deliver direct educational services to expectant mothers as well as in-kind aid to vulnerable mothers.
Having a healthy pregnancy is one of the best ways to promote a healthy birth. Getting early and regular prenatal care improves the chances of a healthy pregnancy. The Mother and Child Hospital Foundation has been filling a gap in women’s prenatal and health education by offering free prenatal classes to mothers in Tirana following their pregnancy at Queen Geraldine Maternity Hospital and UHOG Koço Gliozheni. Since the beginning of the prenatal classes in November 2016 the Foundation has been able to directly impact 1,500 expectant mothers!
We advocate for the physical and psychological needs of these very vulnerable parents and their babies.
Research shows that “parents of premature infants are more likely to experience high levels of distress that may include anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms .”
Stepping in to bridge the gap, The Mother and Child Hospital Foundation started the first program of support for parents of babies in the NICU in Albania. The program assists parents in learning more about how to better care for their preemie, learn coping mechanisms on dealing with the situation their family now faces, receive medical guidance and advice and above all, to receive hope.
