Turning Generosity Into Practical Help

When you work alongside maternity and children’s hospitals, you see very quickly where the gaps are.

A hospital may have dedicated doctors and nurses, but lack a functioning fetal monitor. A mother may arrive to give birth without the basic supplies she needs to care for her newborn when she goes home.

These are not abstract problems. They are real needs that we encounter in our work.

The Mother & Child Hospital Foundation has developed a strong track record of identifying those needs and responding with practical solutions. We listen to healthcare professionals, understand what is most urgently needed, and work with our donors to provide equipment, supplies, furnishings, and improvements that can make an immediate difference.

Since 2013, we have invested more than $250,000 in medical equipment, instruments, furnishings, and mother- and child-friendly spaces in hospitals across Albania.

We don’t simply raise money and decide what to buy. We start by asking what is needed. Then we work to find the right solution and get it where it can be used.

Helping Mothers and Babies Begin Well

One of the simplest ways we can help a vulnerable family is also one of the most tangible.

Some mothers leave the maternity hospital without the basic items their newborn needs. Our Boxes of Joy provide vulnerable mothers and their babies with essential newborn supplies while giving us an opportunity to connect families with further support.

The idea is simple: a new baby deserves a good beginning, regardless of the family’s circumstances.

But the box is only the beginning.

Through this project, we can identify mothers who may need additional support and connect them with services and people who can help after they leave the hospital—including breastfeeding support, postpartum care, and other community resources.
