How Community and Hope Saved Baby Reanta’s Life
Sometimes, when we are asked to help, we don’t feel brave.
We don’t feel powerful.
We don’t even feel hopeful.
In 2017, while serving on the board of the Mother and Child Hospital Foundation, I received a phone call that changed me forever. Our Executive Director, Gerta, was calling about a baby—Baby Reanta.
The doctors had done everything they could. Reanta had developed a devastating intestinal infection, and without being airlifted immediately to a hospital in Italy, she would not survive.
Gerta was asking for help.
And the truth is—I didn’t have a good answer.
I didn’t know where the money would come from.
I didn’t know who would step forward.
And if I’m honest, hope felt fragile.
The situation felt impossible.
How a Community Came Together to Save a Baby’s Life
But hope has a way of showing up—even when we struggle to believe ourselves.
Gerta reached out to Ornela, another member of our board. Ornela contacted a national television station and shared Reanta’s story with the country. That same evening, Albanian rapper Noizy used his voice and platform to call on people to help.
And something extraordinary happened.
Before the night was over, the funds needed to airlift Baby Reanta to Italy were raised.
Strangers gave.
People didn’t hesitate.
A community moved as one.
Where Is Baby Reanta Today?
Today, Reanta is nine years old.
Nine years old. Alive. Growing. Laughing. Living a life that once seemed impossible.
Her story is a powerful reminder of what happens when compassion turns into action—when many small efforts come together to create something life-saving.
The Power of Giving: A Deeply Albanian Value
As Albanians, generosity lives deep in our culture. Time and again, we see people step forward to help—without overthinking, without hesitation.
The Mother and Child Hospital Foundation exists to be a trusted bridge between that generosity and the mothers and babies who need support most. For years, our work has focused on providing critical medical equipment to hospitals—tools that save lives every single day.
That work matters deeply. And it will always matter.
But as we look toward the future, we know there is another urgent need we can no longer ignore.
In 2026, We Are Investing in the Human Side of Healthcare
Every year, mothers find themselves unexpectedly in the NICU, watching their newborns fight for life. The emotional toll is overwhelming—fear, exhaustion, uncertainty, and trauma all at once.
At the same time, doctors and nurses work under constant pressure, making life-or-death decisions day after day.
If we want strong hospitals, we need healthy people inside them.
Mental health support for medical staff improves teamwork, decision-making, and compassion. Emotional support for mothers helps them heal and care for their babies more confidently.
This is how hospitals become not just places of treatment—but places of healing and hope.
Why Your Support Still Matters—Even When It Feels Small
The story of Baby Reanta reminds us that miracles rarely happen because of one person alone. They happen when people choose to care—when they believe their contribution still matters.
So today, we ask you:
Will you be part of this next chapter?
By supporting this special project, you are helping create:
- Healthier mothers
- Supported medical teams
- A future where every baby has a fighting chance
Even when a situation feels impossible, hope can still win.
We’ve seen it before.
And together, we can see it again.
